Last Days

July 20, 2010

She scores the lines

between them, making

the breakup smoother,

or so she whispers

in the week before,

as she gather herself

to begin the cut.

Somewhere between

“talk” and “goodbye”

rips and tatters form

across lies lived

for too long.

Careful words turn

sharp, reason swallowed

in emotion, break miles

from smooth.

Separate ways are taken,

wounds are licked,

feelings salved at best

as can be hoped, until

someone moves on

and someone is broken.

  1. A brillian poem about the breakup of a relationship…so well crafted.
