The city grows and changes,
a teenager full of awkward
false starts and limbs
that don’t quite fit,
empty storefronts
between attempts
to find her face,
slapped up statues,
patched up roads,
and another round
of college kids filling
call centers, dreaming
of stages, of college classes,
bursting into the night
to roar against the quiet
of her nights, drowning
the soft sounds of a city
still becoming.
