Desert Town

May 16, 2010

The city falters,
then breaks against
ragweed and sand,
pinned between desert
and jagged rock,
but still scrabbling
to expand, always
pretending at grandeur,
growing beyond
small college town,
a proper city
that no one needs,
but politicians crave,
and developers plot,
ignoring the beauty
of a ragged edge,
life in the desert.

  1. So many changes in beauty for the sake of profit…how sad…love how you’ve framed this poem.

    • Thank you very much. I do like how it came together.
